Spicy Edamame with Lemon and Ponzu

Typical appetizer with a spicy slant.

  • 8 ounces frozen in-shell edamame beans
  • 1 lemon, zest of
  • 1 tablespoon ponzu sauce
  • red pepper flakes (to taste)
  • flaked salt (to taste)

  1. Bring 2 cups water to a boil in a saucepan and add frozen edamame.
  2. Return the water to a boil and  cook 3 minutes, then drain and cool.
  3. Serve edamame drizzled with ponzu and sprinkled with lemon zest, red pepper flakes to taste and flaked salt.
  4. To eat, pull the shells through your teeth, drawing the beans out, and discarding the shell.

  1. I made this last night to take to a B-day party as an appy. I personally do not care for Edamame, but I wanted to use my Ponzu sauce that I had already made.
I basically relied on everyone attending to cast a vote on what they thought.
Everyone agreed that while it was kinda tasty, the means of eating them (stripping them with their teeth from the pods), was a little bothersome. The over all vote on a scale of 1 to 5 came out as a 3. I'm glad we all got to try your recipe, Sue.
